Passive fire protection
Fire-rated doors and glazing
We supply and install steel, timber and sliding fire doors, fire-rated glazing, fire curtains and fire shutters, certified to European standards.
Fire-rated doors, glazing, fire curtains and shutters hold fire and smoke in the part of the building where they started, for the time set by their certification. Pyroprolipsi supplies and installs them, with ISO 9001:2015 certification for the supply and installation of fire-rated doors and glazing.
What we supply and install
Every door and screen carries certification to the standard that applies to it:
- Steel hinged fire doors, to EN 1634
- Steel hinged fire doors for external use, CE marked, to EN 1634
- Security fire doors, to EN 1634
- Fire-rated glazing, opening and fixed, to EN 1634
- Timber hinged fire doors, to EN 13501
- Sliding fire doors, to EN 16034:2014, EN 13241:2016 and EN 1634-1, CE marked
- Fire curtains without insulation (E) or with insulation (EI), to EN 1634
- Fire shutters without insulation (E) or with insulation (EI), to EN 16034:2014 and EN 13241:2016
What E, EI and REI ratings mean
A fire rating tells you how many minutes a door or screen resists fire, and in what way. E stands for integrity: flames and hot gases do not pass through. I stands for insulation, so the side away from the fire stays at a safe temperature. R refers to load-bearing capacity. The number is the minutes, for example EI 60 or EI 120.
On our projects we have installed EI2 60 steel doors, REI 180 double-leaf steel doors, E 90 composite glazed screens, EI 120 timber glazed doors, 60-minute fire curtains and motorized sliding fire doors with explosion-proof (ATEX) motors.
Manufacturers we have worked with in this category: Locher, Endoors and Sebino for hinged doors, Meverin for sliding doors, Bloxer Ronchi for glazing and Fire Curtains Ltd for fire curtains.
From the study to maintenance
Fire-rated doors are part of a building's passive fire protection, so the work starts with the study. We study and design the passive fire protection, choose the right door or screen for each opening and source it from recognised manufacturers.
The same team installs it, together with the firestopping around the openings, and takes care of maintenance. Because we also install fire detection systems, fire curtains and self-closing doors can be linked to them within the same project.

FAQ
What clients ask us most
Which fire door does my building need?
The fire safety study for your building sets the type and fire rating of each door, based on the use of the building and the fire compartment the door closes. If you have a study, send us the drawings and the door schedule. If you do not, we can prepare one to the Greek Fire Service regulations.
What is the difference between an E and an EI rating?
An E rating guarantees integrity only: fire and hot gases do not pass to the other side. An EI rating adds insulation, so the surface on the other side does not heat up dangerously. We supply fire curtains and fire shutters in both versions, depending on what the study specifies.
Can a fire door have glass in it?
Yes. Fire-rated glazing, opening and fixed, is certified to EN 1634 just like solid doors. We have installed E 60 double glazed doors with panic bars, E 90 composite glazed screens in offices and EI 120 timber glazed doors. The space keeps its light and visibility without losing fire protection.
Do you install fire doors outdoors?
Yes. We supply steel hinged fire doors for external use, CE marked and certified to EN 1634. On industrial sites we have also installed motorized sliding fire doors with explosion-proof (ATEX) motors, for example at a natural gas compressor station. Send us the size and use of the opening and we will suggest the right door.
What is a fire curtain and where is it used?
A fire curtain is a fire-resistant fabric that stays rolled up above an opening and drops in a fire, by an automatic or manual mechanism. It is used where a fixed wall or door would close off the space, such as balconies, atriums and stages. We have installed fire curtains at the Natural History Museum of Crete and the Kalamata Dance Hall.
